Cost Plus Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has issued a voluntary recall this week of their Moroccan tea glasses.
The recall affects about 14,000 units sold by the Oakland-based distributor. According to the announcement, the tea glass exterior coloring contains excessive levels of lead.
Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects even in small amounts.
Consumers are advised to stop using the tea glasses and to return them to any Cost Plus or World Market store for a full refund.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission found dangerous levels of cadmium in children’s “Best Friends” charm bracelets sold by Claire’s Boutiques Inc., and about 19,000 of the bracelet sets have been recalled as a result. No related injuries have been reported yet.
Inhaling dangerous levels of cadmium can cause lung damage, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, and consuming the toxic metal can irritate the stomach, possibly leading to diarrhea and vomiting. Long-term exposure to the metal, even at lower levels, can damage the kidneys. The Department of Health and Human Services lists cadmium as a known human carcinogen as well. Consumers can return the bracelets to any Claire’s store for a full refund or replacement product.
