Pit bull terrier escapes quatantine, swims into ocean

Posted on Monday, April 30th, 2012 at 8:02 pm

A pit bull terrier named Cleo attacked a Seaside Park police officer at the L Street beach over the weekend.

The officer was responding to a complaint that the dog’s owner did not have the animal leashed. The beach has a strict policy against unleashed pets.

When the officer arrived, Cleo was on his leash. Something must have startled the animal because it made a lunge for the officer and bit his finger before its owner was able to regain control. Because Cleo’s owner did not have proof his pet had received a rabies shot, the dog was taken into quarantine.

Cleo managed to break free before being locked away and ran towards the ocean. He swam nearly half of a mile offshore before a fire department rescue boat found and rescued him. Exhausted from the long run and swim, Cleo did not fight his rescuers.

Supplements may dangerously lower blood pressure

Posted on Wednesday, April 14th, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Atlas Operations Inc., a company based in Pompano Beach, FL began a recall of certain dietary supplements in December 2009. Recently, they have expanded this recall to include three more products that were sold in stores nationwide.

The potentially dangerous supplements include the products Stamin It, Erectzia and Vigor 100, all of which claimed to help boost sexual performance. The drugs were recalled because they each might contain an ingredient that is not properly declared on their labels. The ingredient is similar to an FDA-approved drug for treating erectile dysfunction, but may negatively interact with certain prescription drugs like nitrates. These drug interactions can cause blood pressure to drop to unsafe levels.
