Proposed bills aim to reduce deaths to sudden cardiac death

New Jersey state senator Fred Madden has proposed three new bills that hope to reduce the chances students will die from sudden cardiac death.
The bills are based on recommendations made by the Student Athlete Cardiac Screening Task Force. They institute a Sudden Cardiac Events Registry where new cases of sudden cardiac death will have to be reported. Additionally, the bills want to increase the rigor of the mandatory physical examinations students must pass in order to be eligible to play high school sports.
Sudden cardiac death is caused by an underlying condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that causes the heart muscle to be too thick. When a person has an attack of sudden cardiac death, the coordination of their heartbeat is thrown off and weakens substantially. Sudden cardiac death is incredibly rare, but kills 100 students across the country every year.

New Jersey personal injury lawyers Levinson and Axelrod were able to secure a $2.7 million jury verdict for the family of a woman who was killed while working at a convenience store. If you or someone you know has been injured, the New Jersey personal injury lawyers of Levinson and Axelrod may be able to get you the compensation you deserve.
The woman, a mother of nine, was working at the convenience store when it was robbed and she was killed. Evidence at the trial proved that there was an unacceptable lack of any kind of safety equipment, including a silent alarm and an outside phone line. It was proven that violent crime is more likely in convenience stores which lack these defense systems, evidence which was supported by a study of criminal activity in the area.
The case was handled by Levinson and Axelrod partner Ron Grayzel, who secured the jury verdict. The case was upheld on Appeal, and was settled before it went to the New Jersey Supreme Court.
